Below you will find the answers to these frequently asked questions:
How many hours is the program?
You can download the detail of the curriculum hours and content of each lesson at these links:
The short answer is anywhere between a few hours and 120 hours depending on how you use the materials. But basically there are two ways to consider the class time:
The 'Core-Time' is the time when running the NCPS kit in its 'Automated' mode, which follows the preset clock management embedded in the run-time of each slide / narration.
If you let the Narrated Class Presentation Software run on its own so that you don;t have to present or lecture, not even for a minute, you'll end up with 42 hours of solid training time, which meets exactly the Florida Licensing Requirement, and exceeds most States.
Many States that have a lower requirement, such as Alabama, Arizona (8 hours) or Georgia (24 hours) use our 50-State Kit and extract from it the components they need to meet their State requirements.
The 'Flex-Time' is the time when lecturing and working with student manuals or following the Lecturing Kit Lesson Plan. You can pick and choose from the topics and elaborate on each topic by sharing personal experience. It doesn't take much experience or work to double or triple the lecturing time by just answering student's questions and giving real-life examples.
Can I combine more than one teaching kit or class style?
Yes. Many people do so and in a variety of ways. Here are some examples:
Blended-Learning: Using both the Lecturing Kit with the NCPS Bundled option you may use the Lecturing Kit to teach the bulk of the class, and then incorporate some NCPS lessons here and there to give yourself some rest or let the NCPS present the topics you don't enjoy teaching.
Mix-Presentation: Using both the Lecturing Kit with the NCPS Bundled option you may use the NCPS on mute mode and navigate through the slides, having the students read them out-loud and using notes from your Lecturing Kit to exemplify what is taught. That allows you to skip slides and keep the class more interactive.
Double-Time Class: For whatever reason, there will be students who miss classes. Regardless which media you used to initially teach the student, using the NCPS you have the ability to load the lessons on separate computers and have the student make up the missed lessons on a separate computer with earphones at the back of the class while you teach your normal class. If you have the Online Kit the student can even make up the class online on his phone or computer.
Is the NCPS a MS/PowerPoint?
No it is not. However it very much works like a MS/PowerPoint in the sense that you can navigate the slides freely (with the added luxury of a navigation menu that allows you to jump straight to a specific slide or topic without having to scroll through all the other slides) but you will not be able to edit the content or move the slides as you would in a typical MS/PowerPoint.
What are the CPSS and CPSE credentials?
There are two independently accredited credentials that schools and instructors may use to help their students get more recognition out of their training.
CPSS stands for Certified Private Security Specialist.
It is achieved by having the student complete the CPSS online examination (158 questions)
CPSE stands for Certified Private Security Expert. It is achieved by having the student complete the CPSE online examination (158 questions) and documenting proof of having in excess of 3 years of professional and/or licensed full-time private security experience.
How do I get my students to receive the CPSS and/or CPSE certificates?
By having them:
Can I create my own MS/PowerPoint using the book?
Yes and No, depending on the extent and amount of content you extract from our materials. Copyrighted material are subject to what is called “Fair Use”. Using small portions here and there from our copyrighted materials, such as a paragraph, is allowable under the 'Fair-Use'. But creating a MS/PowerPoint that mirrors our program and/or uses extensive sections of our copyrighted materials is not protected by 'Fair Use' and thus constitutes a copyright violation. It will jeopardize your licensing as an entity/agency/school training professionals to protect their clients from liability and theft. Your best course of action is to save time and use the NCPS Kit, which works just as a MS/PowerPoint and has many additional benefits.
Can I have the online course customized to meet my State’s requirements?
Yes. Call us or email us the detail of your State’s required curriculum and time requirement, and in most instances we can build the course for your State.
What will I need to buy on a per-student basis?
If you use the NCPS Kit you won't need anything else.
If you use the Online Kit you won't need anything else.
If you use the Lecturing Kit, and depending on how you use it, you may need replacement student manuals as they become worn or stolen. You may decide to replace books that you offer to students for purchase, in order to generate extra income.
How do I get more exams and certificates?
The NCPS and the Lecturing Kits come with soft copies of all the materials you need to reprint. You can print them yourself or have them printed by a print-shop.
The Online kit has a download feature that allows you to download certain documents. The rest is all web-based. Exams are taken online and thus the record stays online unless you want to print it out and keep a hard copy of it.
Does the program get updated and how often?
For the States for which we publish the relevant laws and statutes as part of the books we update them when there is a significant law changes. And we also update the impacted documents such as exams if applicable. That means generally once a year unless there are no immediate changes.
We update kits based on certain situations. For example in 2019 we added content that relates to active shooter preparedness in response to the 2018 school shootings. We also added content regarding profiling and other relevant information to help prepare guards with the most relevant type of threats as new threats emerge. Then, when the Florida Division of Licensing overhauled the curriculum in June 2019, we redid the entire program to match the new requirements, and, we worked with the Division so they would automatically approve the schools we would inform them are adopting our lesson plans.
An associate/friend of mine told me that he was receiving free updates for his kit when changes occur.
From 2014 to July 2019 we provided non-contractual Courtesy & Complimentary Updates to our clients for up to two years from date of purchase. To this day we honor this Courtesy & Complimentary Update with all our clients who purchased their kit prior to July 2019, with the exception of a few clients who had their Courtesy & Complimentary Update revoked. Revocation happens when a client is making illegal copies of our materials, committing fraud such as copying materials and then asking for a refund, being unprofessional with our staff or denigrating our company brand and products. After all why should we give something for free to someone hurting our business? From July 2019 to November 2019 we provided the option to new clients to purchase a Maintenance Plan for up to two years from date of purchase. Those who bought that option when purchasing their kit are protected up to November 2021.
At this stage we no longer offer clients to buy maintenance plans. Instead, when changes will occur in a program we manage, we will sell updates that will be priced based on the complexity of the changes. If it is just a chapter or a few pages it will be inexpensive. If the entire kit had to be redone we will provide a discounted price to existing clients who are not under a Maintenance Plan or the Courtesy & Complimentary Updates.
What if I lose a CD, or some of my material?
Replacing a lost M-Disc cost $29 plus shipping.
Replacing the Thumb-Drive with all the files in it cost $69.
Replacing your entire lecturing kit requires a new purchase of the whole kit.
Can I get a duplicate of my teaching book?
When you initially purchase your kit we give you the option to get additional kits at a fraction of the price. You can get up to 4 additional kits, each with almost 66% DISCOUNT on each kit. If you need a second kit because you are expanding and creating new locations we will create entire new kits (certificates, registration, etc, etc.) with the proper new address and school license at a 50% discount, plus shipping.
What if my State doesn’t have a licensing process for security guards?
That creates the opportunity for you to dominate the market by using SecuriStart's credentials: CPSS (Certified Private Security Specialist) and CPSE (Certified Private Security Expert) as a means to give a credential to individuals who want to be recognized as professionals, and to agencies that are trying to establish themselves as credible. You can do so easily using our 50-State kit and registering your students to SecuriStart National Database for a nominal fee per student.
How do I know if your kits are compatible with my State’s requirements?
As of now we have not found a State which requirements contradict SecuriStart's standard. Your State may require additional training regarding law specific to the State because laws can vary greatly. For example, Florida licensees do not possess power of arrest, only to detain, while California and Georgia give power of arrest. You must at least know the law of your State or see if we have a Kit specifically made for your State that include its laws.
Can you customize the kits for me?
Yes, All kits are customized with your company logo and name. Sometimes it is printed in the corner of the materials, sometimes it is watermarked, sometimes your logo is at the center of the document such as in the certificate. Your input on your desired look must be made known prior to printing.
Even the student manuals can be customized with your logo on the cover and a foreword about you and your company by ordering a minimum of 25 student manuals on your first order. After that you can order them by 5 at a time like the normal manuals, and always at a 40% discount for resale.
Are there restrictions on the use of the NCPS?
You cannot use the software in multiple locations. Let us clarify: If your are school ABC-Training and bought the NCPS you can load it on 50 computers if you want, as long as they all stay at the school and are used at the school's single location for which they were bought. If you are a travelling school, then you can use it wherever you go but only at one location at a time. In other words you can’t be teaching at location ‘B’ while having students taking the course also at location ‘A’. To do that you would need a second license so that you have one assigned to location ‘A’ and one that travels. The same goes for if you have multiple fixed locations. You need one license/kit per location if you’re going to teach at both locations at the same time.
You are not authorized to use it for distance learning by giving remote access to the course on your computers or by loading it in such a way that the courses can be taken remotely. That would be a breach of your licensing agreement.
We offer a $1,000 reward for information that establishes infringement on our licensing agreement, and another $2,000 after full prosecution. We give you lots of freedom to use our material, we appreciate you respect our company and its products. We’ll work with you if you need multiple licenses, so please work with us.
